Mercor is partnering with an AI research group to bring on data science experts who can advance model reasoning with high-quality annotations and technical feedback.

As an AI Tutor - Data Science Specialist, you will provide precise inputs, labels, and evaluations that help train, test, and refine advanced data-driven AI models.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Science Tutor (Full Time) role is a remote full-time position. It suits experienced professionals who want flexible, project-based AI work reviewed on a rolling basis. You collaborate directly with client teams on real deliverables that help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems, with no long-term commitment required.

• Use proprietary software to label, annotate, and evaluate AI-generated outputs related to data science and quantitative modeling.
• Deliver high-quality curated datasets that strengthen model understanding and reasoning.
• Collaborate with technical teams to train, test, and refine data-driven AI systems.
• Provide input on the design and improvement of annotation tools to ensure efficient workflows.
• Interpret, analyze, and execute evolving task instructions with precision and critical thinking.
• Contribute to advancing innovative research initiatives by applying deep domain knowledge.

Ideal Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field; alternatively a medal in the IMO or comparable competition.
• Proficiency in both informal and professional English communication.
• Strong ability to navigate academic databases, research materials, and online resources.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment with limited guidance.
• Passion for technological innovation and AI advancement.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least one publication in a reputable journal or recognized research outlet.
• Prior experience as an AI tutor or in a related training and data annotation role.
• Teaching or academic experience such as professor, instructor, or tutor.
• Experience in technical writing, journalism, or professional communication.
• Professional background as a data scientist or researcher in quantitative domains.

Work Environment & Requirements

• Location options include fully remote or in-office in Palo Alto, CA (5 days per week).
• Schedule runs 9:00am to 5:30pm PST for the first two weeks before aligning with your local timezone.
• Requires a Chromebook, Mac (macOS 11+), or Windows 10+ device and reliable smartphone access.
• U.S. applicants must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois.
• Visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation & Terms

• $90,000-$200,000 per year depending on experience, expertise, and location.
• International pay rates are available upon request.
• Role is full-time salaried; benefits vary by country.
