Python SWE
Mercor is recruiting U.S./UK/Canada/Europe-based SWEs for a model-training project with a leading foundational model AI lab.
This role is for engineers with deep, production-level Python expertise across architecture, implementation, and debugging in real-world systems.
You Are a Good Fit If You
- Have experience working at top U.S. tech firms.
- Have a proven track record of building and maintaining complex, production-grade Python systems, not just scripts or notebooks.
- Have deep Python fundamentals, including decorators, generators, async/await, context managers, profiling, and memory optimization.
- Can design modular, testable codebases with modern tooling such as FastAPI, Pydantic, type hints, dependency injection, and unit/integration test frameworks.
Interview Process
- The vetting process includes a 90-minute human interview centered on Python.
- You are not allowed to use an AI IDE during the interview.
- You are allowed to use LLMs or Stack Overflow during the process.
- You should hear back within two weeks.
Role Details
- You must be able to commit around 20 hours per week.
- This contract is expected to last at least 1 month.
- Successful contributions increase the odds that you are selected for future Mercor projects.
- This role pays $100 per hour based on experience.
Project Timeline
- Start Date: Immediate
- Duration: At least 1 month
- Commitment: Around 20 hours/week
Selection Process
- Complete the human technical interview focused on Python.
- Demonstrate production-level engineering judgment and code quality standards.
- Receive a decision and follow-up process within approximately two weeks.
Contract & Payment Terms
- You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
- Fully remote — complete work on your own schedule.
- Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Payments are weekly via Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
- Note: Mercor is unable to support H1-B or STEM OPT candidates at this time.
