Biology Expert (General)

Biology - Hourly Contract - Remote - $80-$110/hr

Mercor is seeking PhD-level experts with experience applying design, optimization, prediction, and scientific reasoning to biological or chemical systems. Consultants support work spanning multi-omics analysis, experimental design, and hypothesis-driven investigation for discovery and translational AI research efforts.

Analysis

• Work with large-scale biological datasets, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and epigenetics.
• Extract useful insights from noisy, high-dimensional biological data.
• Interpret complex experimental or computational outputs to guide research and development decisions.

Reasoning & Scientific Thinking

• Apply strong causal and mechanistic reasoning to evaluate biological or chemical systems.
• Generate testable hypotheses and compare competing explanations across experiments or datasets.
• Synthesize evidence clearly and concisely for technical audiences.

Design, Optimization & Prediction

• Contribute experience in biological or molecular design, including protein, DNA/RNA, or small molecule systems.
• Support design, optimization, prediction, and scientific reasoning workflows across experimental and computational settings.
• Help frontier AI teams train and enhance models with expert biological and chemical reasoning.

Ideal Candidate Profile

• PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biostatistics, chemistry, or a related field.
• 3-8+ years of relevant research or industry experience with strong quantitative and analytical skills.
• Comfortable working across data analysis, modeling, scientific reasoning, and cross-functional communication.

Contract and Payment Terms

• Independent contractor role that is fully remote and can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Weekly payments are handled through Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
